Six tech companies will begin offering “returnships:” 18-week paid internships for mid-career professionals who want to get back to the workplace after taking time off to care for a child, parent, or other loved one. The returnship idea was started internally at Return Path, and has recently launched into an independent nonprofit. While there isn’t a guarantee that participating in the program will lead to a full time job, it’s a way to reintroduce people to the world of work and provide them with networking opportunities. The statistics aren’t bad either, 80% of past participants were offered employment at the company where they interned and 90% are now employed.
